Summer Safety Tips

Summer is upon us! America's favorite season officially kicks on Tuesday, June 20th.
As with every season comes the opportunity to discuss the importance of safety for you and your colleagues. All seasons should be taken seriously as they demand worker acclimatization to the ever changing temperatures.
Let's tackle the usual suspects that can potentially interfere with the joys of Summer!
Heat Exposure
Heat stress is a big one. If you don't follow OSHA's campaign to beat the heat, you are in serious trouble. More importantly, there are set standards associated with heat stress that need to be followed.
Employers are responsible for providing workplaces free of known safety hazards. This includes protecting workers from extreme heat. An employer with workers exposed to high temperatures should establish a complete heat illness prevention program.
- Provide workers with water, rest and shade.
- Allow new or returning workers to gradually increase workloads and take more frequent breaks as they acclimatize, or build a tolerance for working in the heat.
- Plan for emergencies and train workers on prevention.
- Monitor workers for signs of illness.

31st Annual AIDS Walk & Red Ribbon 5K Fun Run
This year I had the privilege of participating in the 31st Annual AIDS Walk OC & Red Ribbon 5K Fun Run. Thanks to everyone who donated, including ehsInc, I was able to meet my donation goal to benefit people living with HIV/AIDS in Orange County. This money will provide things like preventative education, free HIV/AIDS testing, food and so much more to those who need it most.
I'm honored to have been a part of an event full of caring people which reminded me how important it is to give back and help one another. The energy of the organizers, participants, and volunteers I felt that day speaks to the commitment they have to care for people with HIV/AIDS and to help eradicate the disease. Although, this was my first 5K it definitely won't be my last. I'm already looking forward to starting a team to enter in their 32nd Annual walk/run in order to surpass what I raised this year!
